About Brett Witteck

I am a California native and Anthropologist by training. Since I was a young, I have loved crafting stories, drawing ideas for new inventions, and have also found a way to maintain a passion for learning, being continuously curious. I am self-motivated and push myself to challenge myself for both personal and professional growth. On the less serious side, a few of my most enjoyable hobbies include hiking, painting & drawing, attending concerts, reading, and making never ending playlists.

I am a User Experience Researcher at IBM. I began my design research experience in January 2021.

I graduate with my Master’s in Applied Anthropology in May 2020 and received my Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology & Education at the University of California, Santa Cruz. Over the course of my BA and MA degrees, I worked on collaborative projects to exercise ethnographic skills. I have experience conducting interviews, focus groups and surveys. I have experience crafting personas, enact those stories in video projects, and script journey maps.

An example of my graduate research project work was under the supervision of Dr. Jan English-Lueck and in collaboration with Dr. Melissa Cefkin, Nissan Innovation Labs. Our research team collected data on pedestrian safety interactions with roadways and streetscapes. You can view a Youtube video from our final project deliverable at the link attached. In other research projects, I have had the opportunity to influence, assist in the design, and create program resources like a digital resource guide, social media pages, and online presentations.
